Are you preparing for a new month? It feels like each one just flies by right under our noses. With that being said, I’m going to share the perfect monthly reset routine I do each month that leaves me feeling my best.

Although this list may seem long, I try to do these things over the last week of the month. Each of us is so busy, I can’t even imagine getting all of these things done in ONE day along with all of the other things we need to get done! Write out all the things you want to get done over the last week of the month, then plan how you can work on little-by-little throughout the week. By the end of that week, you’re going to feel AMAZING!

Why is it important to have a monthly reset routine?

There are a lot of reasons as to why a monthly reset routine is important, but for me, I think the main reason is that it will bring you SUCCESS and you’ll get closer to your goals all while maintaining your peace of mind.

Creating a monthly reset routine was one of the best things I could’ve done for myself. I think it’s wonderful to have a scheduled time to “get your life together.” It prepares you for the next month, allows you to check on yourself and your goals, and overall just feel better about LIFE.

Although what I want to share in my monthly reset routine works for ME, it’s important to make your routine one that caters to all of YOUR needs! Find things that make you feel good and whole. Think of it as self-care, something that you want to do for yourself. Create a list and GO FOR IT!

The Perfect Monthly Reset Routine to Feel Refreshed

Get rid of unwanted items

This might be my favorite part of resetting. I love to go through my clothes, makeup, clutter that’s accumulated, old journals/pens/stationery, and anything that I don’t believe I need anymore.

Whether you follow a minimalistic lifestyle or not, getting rid of things that don’t serve any purpose in your life will ultimately leave you feeling so much calmer and clear-headed. It’s also a great thing to donate unneeded items to people who need them more so that those items can finally get some use!

Clean out your fridge & pantry

This does go along with the theme of ridding yourself of unwanted items, but I feel like it can be more neglected than other things. Going through your fridge and pantry can make a huge difference in your mindset and your environment.

A lot of food can start to build up without any use. I would first recommend throwing away expired from your fridge. Then, you can plan out how you can use the food items that are still good and ready to be used. This will help you to save money and not waste the food that you buy.

Next, I would recommend going through your pantry and finding what has just been sitting there for quite some time. It’s so much more awarding to donate these nonperishable items to places like a Food Bank instead of letting them sit in the cupboard for a long period of time.

Clean each room & deep clean what needs it

Like I said earlier, we don’t have time to deep clean every area of our home or apartment in one day or even one week. My recommendation is to look at what needs a surface clean and what needs a DEEP clean.

Focus on the areas that need a deep clean first and try to do that throughout your week. However, rooms that just need a simple pick up or wipe down can get that in just a few minutes. A reset is not about spreading yourself thin. It’s about allowing yourself to create an environment that will help you be more productive and calm!

Clear out files & photos on your devices

Another thing that gets skipped constantly (by me, I’m calling myself out). Especially as a student, it’s easy to let files get built up on your computer or Google Drive. A lot of these files are unnecessary once the assignment is submitted. So, I think it’s a great habit to clear them!

Quickly create files for the files that you will need in the future. Then, you can delete the ones that no longer serve you. Not only will this declutter your computer, but it will make it easier for you to find important files.

Photos are another thing that tends to build up FAST. My favorite thing is to clear out photos from my phone’s camera roll that I will never need. Then, I will sync the photos I want to my Google Photos. Google Photos will then give you the option to delete all the photos backed up from your camera roll. Having fewer photos in your camera roll makes your phone feel a lot less cluttered.

Restock common items you need

There is no better feeling than being stocked up on the household/food items that you’re always using. For me, this includes certain baking/cooking essentials, oatmeal, coffee/matcha, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.

Look through your space for things that you might be needing more of and make a list. You probably won’t need to buy EVERYTHING, but just getting the things you’ll need for the next month will make you so prepared!

Create your monthly goals

Yay for monthly goals! There is such beauty in creating goals and seeing your progress each month.

The best way that I’ve found with goal-creating is to make ATTAINABLE goals in multiple life categories. However, this depends on what you want to work on. I make personal goals, finance goals, career goals, school goals, fitness goals, etc…the list goes on and on.

If you made yearly goals, it’s great to break those down into smaller ones. This will make them seem a bit more achievable. Break the life goals into yearly goals, yearly to monthly, and monthly to weekly. That’s my favorite way to achieve the things that I want!

So take some time to brainstorm and think of how you can become your highest self!

Create your monthly budget

Going back to goal setting, creating a monthly budget will allow you to create financial goals for yourself each month. Everyone likes to budget in different ways, but I have a Google Sheets that I use to track all of my spending, credit, bills, savings, etc. I love having all of my information in one place.

I’m going to link the template I use HERE, which was $9.99 on Etsy.

Listen to an uplifting podcast

We’ve talked about things I love to do that including cleaning and organizing. Let’s talk about our minds! Maybe you’ve been in a bad mindset the past month, or maybe you’ve been doing great. No matter the situation, listen to words that will motivate you. Words that help you learn and grow.

We can never stop learning!

Put on a podcast while you’re cleaning or organizing. It makes the tasks seem easier, and the knowledge is so worth it. Some of my favorite podcasts are 80/20 with Lily Rakow, The Mindset Mentor, Huberman Lab, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, For You From Eve, and many more!

There are so many wonderful podcasts at our fingertips, and utilizing this resource can be so good for us!

Organize your calendar

The final thing that I try to do each month is organize my calendar. I’ll put in my work schedule, birthdays, appointments, events, and anything else I think needs to be on my radar.

If you put it in at the beginning of the month, you’ll find that planning things throughout the month will be easier. You’ll be able to find time to accomplish everything you need. I can only pray that it’ll help you not forget an important birthday!

I use Google Calendar because I feel like it’s the easiest platform, but even writing it down can be so helpful!
